Racheli Sokol

Racheli Sokol

For a seven-year-old "state of the art" is a Commodore 64 and LOGO. If you're an adventurous seven-year-old then you program in Basic, too. Racheli Sokol was an exceptional elementary student growing up in Israel, tackling those technologies as well as Pascal. Math, which she describes as "the love of my life" would draw her deeper into computers, chemistry and physics. And by the age of 15 she decided to study computer sciences to become a programmer.

Racheli would receive her BA in computer sciences from Technion Institute in Haifa, Israel. The institute is regarded as the MIT of Israel and recognized the world over for important scientific research. Now 22, Sokol has achieved her dream of programming and continues to reach for new achievements.

When did you first discover your love and/or obsession with computers and technology?

When I was a kid. :) Computers for me are something ordinary that I use and work with all day. I can't imagine myself without them. I became obsessed with the Internet in college, first surfing, chatting and emailing and later on with Web design and development. I can't imagine myself apart from the Internet. :)

How do you earn a living?

I earn a living by working as a programmer and team manager in a big software house.

Do you consider yourself a Geek?

Yes, I do. I think that my interests in science and technology, my knowledge in these areas and the fact that almost all my time is spent with computers or on the Internet qualify me.

What is your favorite Website?

Mine of course! :) Bitsofmagic.com - my personal outlet and where I let my creativity run loose. Another fave is the Digital Divas Web site - a group I'm very honored to be a part of.

What do you do when you're not working?

When I'm not working, and I work many hours, I like to spend time with my boyfriend and my friends, read, watch movies, spend time on the Internet. I also like to dance, something I don't really find time to do. I try to have fun as much as I can. :)

What's your motto?

"If you put your mind to it, you can do anything."

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

Wynona Rider. She has some resemblance to me and she has the geek girl look.

Who is the person you most admire?

I admire famous scientists like Albert Einstein, Marie Curie and Alan Turing.

What would be the title of your autobiography?

"Bits of Magic," like my domain name - bitsofmagic.com. :)

When and where were you the happiest?

In my last year in the Technion, the university where I studied, after I met my boyfriend. I'm also pretty happy these days. :)

If you could have one super power what would it be?

To be able to make everything I want come true with a tap of my finger. ;)
